Who Needs a Chiropractor?

Adults

The nerves in your body control and coordinate every function in your body. When a vertebra that make up your spine are out of alignment, it can interfere with the transmission of messages along the nerve pathways in your body. Adults have misalignments in their spine that may cause a variety of ailments and pain. Consider these sources of subluxation (misalignment of vertebrae) experienced by adults:

  • Falls that took place in childhood

  • Auto or work-related accidents

  • Current or former experience in contact sports

  • Stress, fatigue, and poor nutrition

  • Exposure to toxins including smoke, prescription drugs, and food additives

All of these things contribute to subluxation - the condition when one or more of your vertebrae are out of place. The longer a subluxation goes unresolved, the more extensive the symptoms throughout your body may become. Chiropractic care does not cure these symptoms or disease. Chiropractic care helps the body heal itself. When the spine is healthy and properly aligned, nerve transmission occurs properly and the body works properly. People who have headaches or back pain or who have been in accidents need chiropractic as do people who have liver problems or diabetes. So do people who feel perfectly healthy.

Pregnant Women

Many women experience pain and discomfort during pregnancy due to:

  • Rapid changes in the shape of mother's body

  • Nerve interference as mother's body adapts to structural changes

  • Pre-existing spine and pelvis instability which may have gone unnoticed before pregnancy

When mom's pelvis is misaligned during pregnancy, the ligaments which support the uterus become twistied and torqued. A constrained uterus can cause:

  • Breech or Transverse Position

  • Slow labors

  • DIfficult labor and Dystocia, which may lead to unnecesary intervention and added birth trauma for baby

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy restores balance to the pelvis, pelvic muscles and ligaments. Additionally, being subluxation free during pregnancy removes interference from mom's nerve system. This allows the uterus to function at its maximum potential, delivering the best of what mom's body and diet have to offer. Women who have been adjusted throughout pregnancy routinely report:

  • Increased ease in dealing with weight gain and hormonal changes

  • Labor and delivery times that last half as long as those of other women

  • Easier deliveries

Seniors

Many seniors are concerned about the growing dependence on prescription medications and the side effects of combining multiple drugs. Restoring better spinal function very often leads to:

  • Inreased energy and vitality

  • Improvement of arthritic symptoms

  • Improved mobility

  • Increased endurance

  • Positive changes in appetite and digestion

Calcium deposits, bone spurs and joint fusion are not a necessary part of the aging process. Often they are the body's response to uncorrected trauma or spinal damage. A full chiropractic examination will identify areas where damage can be rehabilitated and chiropractic care can slow or stop spinal decay.

Children

Many parents have their newborn's spine checked immediately after birth because of the following:

  • The use of forceps or suction as well as the common twisting and turning of baby's head and neck during delivery put stress and strain on the spine

  • C-section births deliver the most trauma to the spine

  • Drugs administered to the mother durning labor and delivery can irritate baby's developing nerve system

  • After birth, chemical stresses from vaccines and baby formula can cause nerve irritation

Older children are active and resilient. They bounce back quickly, but the bangs and bumps have an impact on their nerve system. The following activities can cause spinal subluxation resulting in nerve interference:

  • Learning to crawl, sit, stand and walk

  • Skating, riding bikes, sledding, and rough play

  • Sports

Common infant and childhood health issues can be traced to interference within the nerve system:

  • Colic

  • Nursing difficulties, especially difficulty suckling or issues that appear on only one side

  • Sleeping problems

  • Food allergies

  • Environmental allergies

  • Asthma

  • Chronic infections

  • Bed-wetting

Chiropractic is safe, gentle and effective - even for newborns.

Dancers, Musicians, & Athletes

Repetitive motion, as are found in training and performance, can alter joint function long before an injury presents itself. Chiropractic care can improve flexibility and keep joints functioning at their best. Professional dancers, musicians, and athletes know that prevention is key to staying in the game.

Pain is often referred, meaning that it is felt in a different place than where the problem actually resides. A problem in the pelvis may actually be felt as pain in the knee and a shoulder injury may manifest itself as a next subluxation. Treating symptoms and pain does not get to the root couse of the injury, and therefore does not rehabilitate or heal. A chiropractic exam can identify if spinal or nerve stress is affecting performance.

When medical professionals care for a patient, the focus is on the area of injury. Frequently, that alone is treated. Chiropractors examine areas outside of the inury itself because they understand how the entire body works together and compensates when one area is weak or damaged. A chiropractic exam may expose issues affecting performance that would go untreated under traditional medical care. Chiropractic care can:

  • Find the root cause and reduce recurrence of injury

  • Speed recovery from injury

  • Improve flexibility and performance
